SALISBURY — The Hudson, Miller, Tatum Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3006 is hosting a Vietnam Veteran Spaghetti Dinner on Saturday.
“Vietnam veterans, their families, and the families of deceased Vietnam veterans, and all who wish to pay their respect are invited to attend,” reads a flier from the organization.
Vietnam War veterans eat for free and donations are accepted from all others.
The menu includes spaghetti, salad, garlic bread and dessert along with tea and soda.
“It’s for Vietnam veterans,” said Michael Nussbaum, U.S. Army Veteran and VFW administrator. “They did not get the recognition coming home. We always like to give back to the Vietnam vets.”
As the son of a Vietnam War veteran, that episode of American history is particularly impactful to Nussbaum.
“The Vietnam War has always interested me,” he said. “It’s near and dear to my heart for a bunch of reasons. I was injured in Iraq and I did not get a big ceremony after I got out of the hospital … it is near and dear and I am truly thankful for their services.”
Nussbaum said they planned to have a ceremony out front by the memorial that will include a flag presentation by a local Boy Scouts of America troop.
“This event is not for the post,” he said. “It’s to honor the Vietnam veterans.”
The event starts at 11 a.m. The VFW Post is located at 1200 Brenner Avenue in Salisbury.
