CONCORD — West Rowan’s softball team was able to play on Friday and took a 7-1 win at Concord.

West (13-2, 10-1) scored twice in the third inning to break a 1-all tie. The Falcons are tied with East Rowan at the top of the South Piedmont Conference.

“It was a good win,” West coach Jimmy Greene said. “Concord has a tough team this year and they made a bunch of plays. We played great defense. Our infield was a wall. All of them made at least one really good play. Arabelle (Shulenburger) settled down after one time through the lineup and shut them down.

Shulenburger had a typical game in the circle, striking out six, walking one and allowing five hits.

EA Nance, a Pfeiffer recruit, swung the biggest bat for the Falcons. She socked two home runs, her fourth and fifth of the season.

“I think the twine was rolling through the parking lot on one of them,” Greene said. “Two bombs.”

Tampa recruit Riley Haggas homered for the second game in a row, her fifth of the season.

Raney Phelps had two hits.

“She’s been really consistent all season long,” Greene said.

Anamaria Shueman had two of Concord’s five hits. She had a double and drove in the run for the Spiders (8-8, 4-7).

West will host Northwest Cabarrus on Tuesday.
