- Georgia Southern commit Kyla Bryant (Salisbury)
Staff report
SALISBURY — Former Salisbury High basketball star Kyla Bryant has announced a commitment to Georgia Southern University.
She’ll still be an Eagle, although it will be a GSU Eagle rather than a North Carolina Central Eagle.
A 5-foot-8 guard, Bryant played the last two seasons at N.C. Central, with considerable success. She was a second team All-MEAC player as a sophomore while finishing seventh in the league in scoring (13.1 per game) and fifth in assists.
Located in Statesboro, Georgia Southern plays in the Sun Belt Conference, a higher profile Division I league that includes schools such as Appalachian State, Coastal Carolina, James Madison, Marshall, Southern Miss and Georgia State.
Georgia Southern was 16-18 last season.
At Salisbury High, Bryant played for her mother, Lakai Brice. She led two state championship teams and scored 1,809 points, second-most in the history of the girls program. She received multiple Rowan County and Central Carolina Conference Player of the Year accolades.
