College track and field: Pfeiffer men win conference title

CONCORD – Pfeiffer’s men won the USA South Outdoor Track & Field Championships staged on Saturday.

The Falcons won eight events and piled up 20 podium finishes to score 197 points and dethrone perennial power Southern Virginia. It was the first outdoor title for Pfeiffer track and field.

Cameron Ritchie (East Rowan) won the 110 hurdles in 15.76 seconds and placed second in the 400 hurdles in 57.53.

Carson Ritchie (East Rowan) and AJ Huffman (Salisbury) ran with Ethan Byerly and Shevaun Daley on the winning team in the 4×400 (3:25.54).

Pfeiffer’s Bob Marchinko received league’s coaching honors.

Southern Virginia won the women’s meet with 223 points. Pfeiffer was third with 85 points.

Pfeiffer’s Makayla Borst (Carson) won the 3000 meter steeplechase in 12:21.26.

Katelyn Lentz (West Rowan) was second in the 800 (2:25.22).
